  • The workshops are held at pansy, you may have noticed we have a cosy studio dedicated especially to welcoming and hosting intimate, creative workshops. Our address is Czaar Peterstraat 68, Amsterdam. If you have any trouble finding it or have any questions about accessibility please feel free to contact us at hello@pansy-shop.com

  • Of course! You can use the voucher code to book online, or if your voucher was purchased in-store, you can send us an email hello@pansy-shop.com and we can organise for it to be used towards your workshop.

  • Yes! What a nice gift! We offer gift cards through our website which can be used across pansy shop, workshops, and services.

  • We’ll take care of everything, if you want to look at some inspiration in advance that always helps!

For clay-making workshops if you have long nails it can be handy to give them a little trim as they can get in the way sometimes.

Don’t wear your finest clothes - we’ll be getting messy with clay and glazes!

Excited to see you in the studio!

  • All of our workshops will be held in English to cater to our international friends! If you have trouble understanding English please let us know before booking so we can help organise translation.

  • pansy is happy to provide you with exclusive team-building experiences, creative activities, and workshops for your business. We will travel onsite or host in our studio. Contact us with the amount of people, the activity you'd like to do, and when we can make this happen!

  • If you’re unable to attend the glazing session of your workshop then we can organise a glazing kit for you to paint your object at home! Unfortunately due to workshop demand, we are unable to reschedule you into another workshop.

  • We recommend coming here by public transport as parking can be tricky on the street! However there’s this Parkbee closeby you can book in advance!

  • If you can't make it to the workshop, please let us know as soon as possible. You can check our full cancellation policy here to see if you’re eligible for a refund!

  • We can't wait to welcome you to our space. It's best to dress in some clothes you don't mind getting messy in, and come as your best beautiful self! We will email you if there are any specific things you'll need to bring along for the workshop.

  • Sure, we’re happy to have kids during our ceramic painting sessions as long as they’re accompanied by you (or a guardian adult)

Alternatively we’re happy to organise private sessions (birthday parties for example) for children with a minimum of 7 participants - send us an email to start planning together!

pansy packs

CERAMIC PAINTING PACKS

  • The kit includes a friendly how-to guide on how to start and finish the painting/glazing process.

If you would like to build your own ceramic shapes, have a look at our workshops section which takes you through the entire process from start to finish!

  • Glazes combine a few main ingredients such as silica, alumina and flux to achieve their shiny finish. The glazes in pansy pack are specially formulated for beginners use so they are water-based, non-toxic, lead-free, and food-safe. However please always take care and precautions by avoiding contact with your skin, eyes or mouth.

  • Technically, yes the ceramic wares are food-safe and can be put in the dishwasher, but like all handmade and glass objects, it’s best to hand wash them for their longevity and keep the shiny finish!

  • Great, we’d love to hear them! Feel free to send us an email hello@pansy-shop.com

  • Amazing - that’s such a cute idea! You can fully customise your packs by adding extra objects here, and extra glazes here! For bulk orders (25+ items) send us an email so we can arrange a better price for you!

CERAMIC MAKING PACKS

  • It’s possible to allow your pieces to air dry and display them on your coffee table, but it is in its most fragile state so it’ll be damaged very easily with a small knockover, and is not water-proof at all! We would highly recommend at least bisque firing your pieces (which is already included in your kit cost, yay!)

  • Not yet! After the first bisque firing process, the clay is still porous and can absorb liquid, if you’d like to use your pieces as a vase, or small bowl - or anything that touches food, please follow the next steps to glaze your piece, which makes it super shiny, colourful, and strong!

  • It depends on what you are making and how thick/large they are! Generally speaking, you’ll be able to make at least two average-sized mugs or one big vase, or multiple smaller objects.

  • As gently as possible! Gently wrap up your creations with as much padding (tea towels, bubble wrap, tissue paper) as possible and then in a basket or shoe box. During transit avoid any bumps, sudden movements, or your items bashing against any hard surfaces. It’s a dangerous journey, be safe!

  • We’re re-designed our pansy packs so that the making and glazing can be done in one session, which means it only needs to be fired once in our kiln! It saves you a couple trips to pansy, as well as making the whole process more efficient. All the instructions about the process are included in the illustrated guide booklet inside of your pack.

general

  • Our kiln is super tiny! (only 50L) and with the amount of workshops and our own studio wok unfortunately we’re unable to take on external firings, so sorry! Feel free to check out kiln share for some firing options!

  • I wrote some detailed information about setting up pansy here!

  • It depends! I generally don’t do any kind of graphic design or logo jobs (but I have a great network of friends who will be able to help you, send me a message!)

If I have time in my schedule I love to work on custom ceramic commissions! The more time, the better! Please send through an email to hello@pansy-shop.com with a timeline, approximate budget, and what you’re after and we can chat more!

  • Sure! We love working with Kees De Boekhouder (they specialise in creative freelancers) and I even did a cute little interview with them here!

Feel free to use this referral code 13039301 when joining, and we both get €100 off! Wahoo!

personal

  • I was born and grew up in Boorloo (Perth, Western Australia). My parents are refugees from Vietnam, fleeing their country in the 1970s. My mum’s family found a new life in Maastricht, the Netherlands whilst my dad’s family found a home in Perth, Australia. I spent a lot of time between the two countries growing up, visiting my opa and oma in Tilburg almost every December holiday season. In the middle of 2018, it felt like the right time to make a move overseas; my partner and I spent almost two years doing residency programs and projects in Amsterdam, Lapua (Finland), Watou (Belgium), Los Angeles, Santa Fe, Jiali (Taiwan), and then finally putting our roots down here in Amsterdam (our favourite city!)

  • Pansy is located in the formerly design and concept store dewerkwinkel + meer which used to be run by graphic designer Lian. I met her in the spring of 2019 after returning from a fourth-month residency in Finland. I was looking for a gallery/retail space to share my work, and completely fell in love with the space. It’s one of those ‘right-time, right-place’ stories as Lian was saying goodbye to her shop. After a quite few months of planning, I was able to sign the lease and got the keys in March 2020.

  • Pansy is a type of garden flower! I wrote a little bit more about my feelings about pansies here.

  • I love beautiful colour combinations (especially including pink), stationery, design, and art supply shops, well-designed spaces, patches of weeds and wildflowers, travelling to new cities, flea markets, food markets, outdoor markets, supermarkets, music videos, flower shops, talking through projects with my partner Bobo, growing plants, meeting other artists doing exciting things, art books, having deep, insightful, and great conversations, love stories, seeing my friends pursue and fulfil their dreams, and so much more!

  • I love listening to podcasts and finding out about new ones! Let me know if you have some good recommendations :) Currently on high rotation:

The Savage Lovecast, My Daily Business Coach, Freakanomics Radio, The Daily, 99% Invisible, Planet Money, Creative Pep Talk, Hidden Brain, Office Ladies, The Office Deep Dive, Ologies, NPR’s Life Kit series, Unlocking Us (and anything Brene Brown), Lingthusiasm, Slate’s Working series, Truth Be Told, Modern Love, Good Ancestor, Goal Digger, Today Explained, No Stupid Questions, Call Your Girlfriend, People I Mostly Admire, Consider This, Death Sex & Money, About Race, Bill Gates & Rashida Jones ask Big Questions, Ten Percent Happier, Yo, Is this Racist?, It’s Been a Minute, Unexplainable, Financial Feminist, The Experiment, Your Undivided Attention, Code Switch, On Being, Retail for the Rest of Us :)

  • I studied Fine Art & Design, my background is in printmaking & illustration and for 7 years in Australia I ran a cute shop/studio/workshop space (very much the roots of where pansy grows) with a team of kickass creative and funny women called Beau Est Mien. I also worked as an artist doing various projects, exhibitions, collaborations and events, you can find out more about my previous work here!
